HUD Definition of Homelessness

The HUD definition of homelessness describes the living conditions of an individual to be considered "homeless".

According to HUD definition of homelessness a person is considered homeless if they: Inhabit places not meant for human inhabitance - such as cars, parks, deserted buildings; Live in housing for the homeless; Live on the street;

If a person has been forced out of a dwelling for a week or longer, or has been released from a hospital, prison, the person is considered homeless if they cannot obtain housing due to lack of funds and/or friends or relatives.

According to HUD definition of homelessness, a person is not homeless id they have a place to stay - even if it is crowded, or a run down place. People staying with relatives or in a day care living facility are not considered homeless.
